The one and only German Chili & Barbecue Event!

Summer party, barbecue party and chilli specialities market: The most exciting german food event of the year will take place on the 30th and 31st of May 2020. Manufacturers from home and abroad gather on the grounds of the Hanoverian Fössebad to offer countless tasty creations. In addition, savvy grill teams in the BBQ Corner attempt new experiments on the grill. International food specialities satisfy any hunger, while relaxing with chilled live music, and let the kids run riot in the Kids Corner. Numerous chilli competitions , such as the German Chili Award (see detailed Information at the buttom of the page) and the Pfefferhaus Chili Challenge will take place and heat up the atmosphere. Numerous factories travel year after year from near and far to showcase their unusual creations and many culinary delights on a colourful marketplace. In addition to familiar faces, there are always some new participants, because the Chili & Barbecue community is growing steadily.
In the foreground of the offer are, of course, delicious barbecue sauces, fiery hot sauces, spices and chilli products of all kinds (which are usually also offered for tasting). The exhibitors of the coming year are looking forward to many discussions about their great products and their craft.
The gastronomic offer at the event includes various hearty barbecue specialities from the grill and giant smokers, typical spicy country kitchens, as well as vegetarian and light summer dishes.

BBQ Corner, market stage, chilli actions and live music

The BBQ Corner is a place established for sharing among grill friends and in 2020 we expect some dedicated participants again. All participating barbecue teams are happy to chat with the guests about their grilling methods. From time to time, small samples are served by the present grill masters. During culinary shows and actions on the market stage professionals demonstrate their skills several times a day.

The whole thing is rounded off by a colourful entertainment program and live music on the big main stage.

A festival for families and children

The culinary offer at the festival is not exclusively spicy! Every hungry visitor, big or small, will get his money's worth here. Families are welcome to us and thanks to various attractions for kids, parents can treat themselves from time to time a short breather. Children up to and including 12 years of course come for free on the site!

German Chili Award - the rules

How does it work?

At the Festival Info Stand, each visitor receives three ballots on presentation of his admission ticket or presentation of the entrance ticket: 1 x 3 points, 1 x 2 points and 1 x 1 point.
Already before the festival weekend, the participating products will be presented on the Festival homepage (shortly at this point!) and on our Facebook page. In the area of the Festival Info Stand, we will also provide an overview of all products and explain the rules for the vote again.
If a visitor has found a few particularly successful products after going through the festival and tasting a lot at the stands, he can insert the three ballots into the evaluation boxes located at the stands of the participating exhibitors.
Thus, every single visitor of the Chili & Barbecue Festival gets the opportunity to vote for his personal favourites. Of course, the points can be distributed to three different products, but you could even give a product all the points.
The first three places in each category will be announced on Sunday afternoon, around 18:00, on the main stage of the Chili & Barbecue Festival, and of course we will ask the producers to the stage with thunderous applause.

The three categories of the German Chili Award

1st: Best "Hot Sauce"

From mild to extra hot, from fruity to spicy, here is maximum freedom. Only rule: One ingredient of the “Hot” Sauce must be chilli!

2nd: Best "BBQ Sauce"

Here we expect above all smoky sauces and hearty recipes with bite. A high proportion of smoked chillies could speak for a sauce in this category. But also typical barbecue sauces with very mild sharpness could make the race here.
Barbecue sauces in the classic sense usually have a smoky content, so we make it a condition that in the recipe of the sauces submitted must be at least one smoky ingredient: liquid smoke (Liquid Smoke), other smoke flavours, chipotle or other smoked chilli, smoked paprika Powder, smoked sugar or smoked salt.

3rd: Best "Free Category"

Of course there are other spicy products besides sauces! Whether spicy pastries, a spicy mixture of spices, creamy chutney, marmalade, chilli oil, chilli soap or a fiery drink. Everything is possible - just no classic hot sauce or barbecue sauce may be.

The award

The German Chili Award distinguishes especially high quality and tasty chilli products. In addition to a trophy, as well as, of course, fame and glory in the scene, the winners will receive a certificate entitling them to use the official German Chili Award logo on the winning product and on their homepage.

What a party!

The Pfefferhaus and the company Sub SoundS are very happy about the increasing positive response of the past six years and are looking forward to the future. Our original idea has blossomed into a professional event! Of course, that makes us very happy.
Our guests arrive not only from the Hanover area, but also from more remote parts of the country, and in part the reputation of this unique festival extends beyond the country's borders. Our thanks go both to the growing number of visitors, as well as to the many exhibitors and restaurateurs who, with their great products and dedication, make this event possible again every year. Of course, we also thank the entire festival team, as well as all supporters and sponsors, who are partly at our side from the beginning.
